List Strategies

💡
TipSegment contacts by activity, region, or account type for targeted campaigns. Sending relevant content to specific audiences improves open rates and reduces unsubscribes compared to broadcasting to your entire database.

Segmentation Ideas

  • By Activity: Active vs. inactive users
  • By Interest: Product categories, topics
  • By Status: New users, VIPs, at-risk
  • By Region: Geographic targeting
  • By Behavior: Purchase history, engagement

Best Practices

  • Keep lists focused and specific
  • Update regularly to remove inactive contacts
  • Use descriptive naming conventions
  • Document list criteria
  • Merge duplicate lists

Using Lists in Campaigns

When creating a campaign:

  1. Select recipient type
  2. Choose specific contact list(s)
  3. The campaign sends only to list members

List Hygiene

Maintain healthy lists by:

  • Removing bounced emails
  • Respecting unsubscribe requests
  • Updating outdated information
  • Archiving old lists
  • Monitoring engagement metrics

Multiple Lists

📧
NoteContacts can belong to multiple lists simultaneously. When a campaign targets multiple lists, duplicates are handled automatically so each contact receives only one copy of the email.
  • Contacts can belong to multiple lists
  • Campaigns can target multiple lists
  • Duplicates are handled automatically (contacts receive only one email)

Dynamic vs. Static Lists

Static Lists

  • Manually curated
  • Don't change automatically
  • Good for one-time campaigns

Dynamic Lists (if available)

  • Based on criteria/rules
  • Auto-update as users match criteria
  • Good for ongoing campaigns
